LONGVIEW, Wa. — Lower Columbia (14-5, 8-1) won its match 3-0 over Pierce (3-21, 1-8) on Friday. LCC took the sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-17 while hitting .268 and holding Pierce to .051.

The Red Devils turned a close start into a 25-17 first-set win, getting early kills from Lauretta Vasi-Tauki'uvea, Anika Plowman, Mackenzie Fitzgerald-Thornton and Karissa Otterstetter. Pierce tied the set at 2-2 and 3-3, but LCC answered through its offense and serving, moving ahead 13-6 when Fitzgerald-Thornton followed an Otterstetter kill with a service ace. Pierce responded with four straight points, including two Lily Gravett aces, to make it 13-10 before the Red Devils steadied the set with a Pierce service error, an Otterstetter ace and another Vasi-Tauki'uvea kill. Kendall Humphrey added a service ace and Vasi-Tauki'uvea followed with a kill during the next stretch, while Ashlin Lockman later had a kill and an ace as LCC reached 23-13. After Pierce scored three late points, the Red Devils closed the set on Otterstetter's kill from Ella Eib.

In the second set, LCC created separation with a six-point push from 13-10 to 19-10, using kills from Lockman and Plowman along with blocks involving Fitzgerald-Thornton and Plowman. Earlier, after Pierce opened the set with an ace, the Red Devils answered through Fitzgerald-Thornton and Humphrey, then added points from Otterstetter, Lockman and Plowman to stay in front. Pierce worked back to 13-10, but LCC responded immediately and forced a timeout during Humphrey's service run. Lockman, Otterstetter and Vasi-Tauki'uvea supplied late kills, and the Red Devils finished the set at 25-13.

A 6-0 run from 13-9 to 19-9 created the key separation for LCC in the third set, including five straight service points during Anika Plowman's turn at the line. Earlier, the Red Devils had added service pressure through aces from Otterstetter, Humphrey and Lockman, with Lockman's back-to-back aces moving the score to 13-5. Pierce answered with four straight points to get to 13-9, but LCC responded immediately as Eib, Vasi-Tauki'uvea and Otterstetter recorded kills during the run that followed. The Red Devils kept the margin intact late, getting a Chesney Schultz kill to reach 23-14 before Vasi-Tauki'uvea delivered kills for the final two LCC points in a 25-17 set finish.
