(Longview, WA) – There is a new standard in southwest Washington community college women's soccer.
The Lower Columbia College Red Devils won a competitive, hard fought 2-1 victory over the Clark Penguins on Wednesday October 5
th at Northlake Field.
The Devils completed a two-game sweep over the Penguins who have long touted their dominance in NWAC South Region play. This Clark team is again very good, but they have found the competition stellar with its move to the West Region.
The Devils are the lone unbeaten team in the West after the victory. LCC is 7-0-3 with a huge league match looming Saturday at Highline.
The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Clark when
Nataija Blaylock found the net on a
Molly Romanchock assist at the six minute mark.
The Penguins came right back and tied up the match with an Anna Neal goal at 19'.
The game winner came in the first half when
Adalie Schierscher curled a corner kick in front of the goal and Romanchock headed it in for a 2-1 lead.
That would be the last goal of the game.
Both teams played physical and both had plenty of chances in the second half but LCC stayed strong and came away victorious.
Kyla Pires was outstanding in goal as she came up with 11 saves.
LCC's
Alexandra Dolce and
Koda Hoaglin were assessed yellow cards in the first half but both kept their composure the rest of the way.
Clark was given three yellow cards in the second half.
The Red Devil resurgence in women's soccer is led by third year head coach
Joe Chicks who has made the Red Devil program more than just viable. By sweeping the mighty Penguins in two games this season, LCC now looks north to play NWAC powerhouse Highline on Saturday October 8
th. The match begins at 12 pm at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila.
The Devils and T-Birds battled to a 1-1 tie the first time they played and it could be another defensive battle.
