KENT, Wash. – The Lower Columbia College Red Devils women's soccer team finished their 2025 season with an offensive explosion, overcoming an early deficit to defeat Green River 4-1 in their final match of the season.
The victory, powered by a spectacular second-half hat trick from forward Ava Gibbs, solidified the Red Devils' 4th-place finish in the NWAC West Region standings.
Despite the dominant final score, the Devils found themselves trailing early. Green River's Mattea Kautzman scored just 5:30 into the game to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
Lower Columbia battled back, finding the equalizer before halftime. At the 35:44 mark, Ava Gibbs netted her first goal of the day, hitting a header goal off a corner kick by Sam Roundtree and and assist by Maylee Reynolds to send the teams into the break tied 1-1.
The score did not reflect the flow of play, as the Red Devils dominated possession and opportunities. LCC outshot Green River by a staggering 17-3 margin, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The 1-1 deadlock held deep into the second half, largely thanks to the efforts of Green River's goalkeeper, Shaliyah Dupar, who recorded 7 saves. The LCC defense, meanwhile, held firm, with second-half keeper Haley Loll needing to make only one save to preserve the tie.
The Devils' persistence finally broke the game open in the 82nd minute. Maylee Reynolds, who already had an assist, scored the go-ahead goal to give LCC a 2-1 lead.
That goal opened the floodgates, and Ava Gibbs took over. Just three minutes later (84:29), Gibbs struck again to give the Devils a 3-1 insurance goal. She wasn't finished, completing her incredible hat trick just two minutes after that (86:57) to cap off the 4-1 victory and a powerful end to the Red Devils' season.
The Devils concluded their first season under new head coach Steven Evans with a 6-7-5 overall record. Their 5-5-4 conference record earned them a 4th-place finish in the NWAC West Region, leaving them just one game out of a playoff spot.
