PUYALLUP, WA – The Lower Columbia College women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought conference match to the Pierce College Raiders on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 in a physical road contest.
The Red Devils battled back from an early deficit to even the score before halftime, but a second-half goal from the Raiders proved to be the difference-maker.
Pierce opened the scoring just under 11 minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. The Red Devils' offense answered the call, applying consistent pressure throughout the first half. Their efforts paid off in the 26th minute when forward Maylee Reynolds drew a foul in the penalty box. Reynolds stepped up to the spot and confidently buried the penalty kick, leveling the score at 1-1.
Lower Columbia was the more aggressive team in the first half, out-shooting the Raiders 7-4 and putting three shots on target.
However, the momentum shifted after the break. The Raiders found the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute to reclaim the lead, 2-1. Despite their efforts, the Red Devils struggled to generate the same offensive firepower they had in the first half, managing only two shots in the final 45 minutes.
Reynolds led the LCC attack with four total shots, two of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Cassandra Cleland played the full 90 minutes in net, making three saves.
The loss moves the Red Devils to 3-5-3 on the season (2-3-2 in conference play). They will look to bounce back in their next match on Wednesday, October 8, on the home pitch vs Green River. Match set for a 4:00 pm start.
