Devils Overpower Clippers

(Longview, WA) The Lower Columbia Red Devils secured a commanding 90-78 victory over the South Puget Sound Clippers on February 15, 2025, in Longview. The Red Devils built their lead early, heading into halftime with a 41-26 advantage, and held off a second-half surge from the Clippers to improve their record to 22-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

Leading the way for Lower Columbia was Kap Laila, who poured in 24 points on an efficient 9-of-14 shooting, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Laila also added seven rebounds, four steals, three assists, and a block in a well-rounded performance.

Amir Locus was equally impressive, finishing with 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting, hitting both of his three-point attempts and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Locus contributed seven rebounds as well.

Keshawn Lewis added 12 points off the bench, hitting a pair of three-pointers and going 6-for-6 from the line.

Malik Brown chipped in 11 points, while James Grose and David Young added 10 and 8 points, respectively. Young also showcased his defensive prowess with three steals and two blocks. The Red Devils shot an efficient 48.2% from the field and 45.5% from three-point range, while converting 26-of-30 free throws (86.7%).

The Clippers, who dropped to 21-5 overall and 10-1 in conference play, were led by Cameron Lawson, who scored 17 points despite fouling out. He shot 6-for-12 from the field, including three triples. Quincy Linton added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Nehemiah Pollard contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Lower Columbia's defense forced 18 turnovers and recorded nine steals, while their efficient shooting and ability to get to the free-throw line proved to be the difference. The Red Devils held a 23-point lead at one point in the second half and weathered South Puget Sound's late push to secure the important conference win.

Devils will be on the road for their next two games, first up is the Tacoma Titans on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 pm. Then, they will head to Des Moines, WA for a 2:00 pm tip vs the Highline Thunderbirds.
