(Longview, WA) Lower Columbia College's men's basketball team secured a critical league victory with a 73-63 win over the Highline Thunderbirds on Saturday night at Myklebust Gymnasium. The Red Devils improved to 17-4 overall and 4-2 in league play, demonstrating strong teamwork and efficient shooting.
The Red Devils led from start to finish, building a 37-22 advantage by halftime. Although Highline outscored LCC in the second half, the Thunderbirds could not overcome the deficit. Lower Columbia shot 44.8% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line, while limiting their turnovers to just seven.
Amir Locus led the Red Devils with a standout performance, scoring 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Kap Laila was a force on the boards, recording a double-double with 13 points and an impressive 18 rebounds while also contributing three assists.
David Young added 14 points, including two three-pointers, and dished out five assists.
Keshawn Lewis was impactful off the bench with 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
The Red Devils' defense was a key factor, forcing eight turnovers and tallying eight blocks. LCC also dominated in the paint, scoring 30 points and limiting Highline to 35.1% shooting overall.
Highline's top performer was Rylan Donovan, who scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Despite Donovan's efforts and a 41-point second half from the Thunderbirds, Highline was unable to close the gap.
Devils men travel to Grays Harbor on Wednesday, January 29, for a 7:00 pm tip vs the Chokers.  GHC has no women's team this season.Â
