(Aberdeen, WA) The Lower Columbia Red Devils put on a commanding performance on the road, securing a 72-52 victory over the Grays Harbor Chokers on Wednesday night. The Red Devils controlled the game from start to finish, showcasing efficient shooting and strong defensive pressure to notch their 18th win of the season.
Lower Columbia shot an impressive 52 percent from the field, knocking down 26 of 50 attempts. Leading the charge was David Young, who poured in a team-high 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including two three-pointers. He also contributed six assists and two steals in a well-rounded effort.
Kap Laila dominated the boards, securing a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while adding two steals and a block.
James Grose also made his presence felt with 11 points, draining three shots from beyond the arc.
Keshawn Lewis provided a spark with 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while Amir Locus added 10 points before fouling out.
The Red Devils' defense was a major factor in the win, limiting Grays Harbor to just 34 percent shooting from the field and a mere 18.8 percent from three-point range.
Despite the loss, the Chokers found a bright spot in Kane Wood, who led all scorers with 19 points. Wood was aggressive, drawing fouls and converting 8-of-9 free throws while grabbing seven rebounds. However, Grays Harbor struggled to find offensive consistency, turning the ball over nine times and managing just three assists as a team.
The Red Devils took control early, jumping to a nine-point lead at halftime before extending their advantage to as much as 20 late in the second half. They dominated the paint with 40 points inside and capitalized on turnovers, scoring 17 points off Grays Harbor's mistakes.
With this win, Lower Columbia improves to 5-2 in conference. Red Devils next game is Wednesday, February 5, at Centralia College. Women will tip at 5:00 pm followed by the men at 7:00 pm.Â
