(Monterey, CA) -- On the day the Lower Columbia men's basketball team was ranked number one in the latest NWAC Coaches Poll, the team suffered its first loss of the season.
They weren't down very long as the team came back to win the second of a back-to-back California series. The Devils are 12-1 on the season as they begin the Christmas break.
Tuesday December 17th – San Joaquin Delta 60 Lower Columbia 51
The game in Stockton featured a rough first half for LCC. The Devils were down at halftime 33-19. The team mounted a comeback, but lost the game by nine.
Malik Brown led LCC with 17 points.
Statistics of the game were not made available by Delta College.
Wednesday December 18th – Lower Columbia 89 Monterey Peninsula 67
Perhaps stung by their first loss of the season, the Devils came out fired up against the Lobos racing out to a 14-0 lead at the outset.
Up 20 at the half, the Devils used a balanced attack to keep the comfortable margin and win going away.
Kap Laila led the way with 16 points, but he had plenty of help.
Malik Brown had 15,
Amir Locus scored 14 and
David Young added 13.
The Devils take a few days off for Christmas before coming back home for a game with Bellevue on Monday December 30
th. The game will tip off at 6 pm.
Lower Columbia will play at Shoreline on Friday January 3
rd (6 pm) before opening up West Region play with a home game against Centralia on Wednesday January 8
th.
