Young’s Buzzer-Beater Stuns Bulldogs

(Longview, WA) The Lower Columbia Red Devils pulled off a miraculous comeback to defeat the Bellevue Bulldogs 58-57 in a thrilling game that culminated with a buzzer-beating tip-in by David Young.

Down by as many as 20 points in the first half, the Red Devils trailed 40-20 at halftime but displayed incredible resilience and determination to storm back in the second half.

David Young, the hero of the game, not only sealed the victory with his last-second tip-in but also delivered an impressive overall performance with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.

Malik Brown was instrumental in the comeback, leading the team in scoring with 12 points and adding 8 rebounds, while Keshawn Lewis chipped in 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Kap Laila provided valuable support, contributing 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting and grabbing 5 rebounds.

For Bellevue, Max Mayo led the way with a game-high 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Isaiah White added 13 points and 3 rebounds, and Darek Usitalo contributed 7 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. Despite their strong first-half showing, the Bulldogs were held to just 17 points in the second half, unable to withstand the Red Devils' relentless defensive pressure.

Lower Columbia's second-half surge, marked by improved shooting and clutch plays, was critical in erasing the 20-point deficit. The defensive effort held Bellevue to 40% shooting overall and forced key turnovers late in the game. David Young's dramatic buzzer-beater capped an unforgettable comeback, solidifying the game as a highlight of the season.

The Devils have one final pre-season match left vs the Shoreline Dolphins on Friday, January 3rd, at Shoreline Community College. Tip is set for 6:00 pm.

League play begins on Wednesday, January 8, vs Centralia at Myklebust gym. The women get it started at 5:30 pm followed by the men at 7:30 pm.
