(Longview, WA) Lower Columbia rallied in the second half but fell just short in a tough 2-1 loss against Clark College, despite dominating possession and offensive chances, particularly in the final 45 minutes. The match, held at Northlake Field, saw the Devils press hard but unable to break through Clark's defense after halftime.
First Half: The Red Devils found themselves down early as Clark's Katie Lozano-Monjaraz opened the scoring at 2:34, assisted by Elizabeth Stordahl off a corner kick.
Despite battling hard, Lower Columbia conceded again at the 44:11 mark, with Ella Krause doubling the Penguins lead. However, Lower Columbia responded almost immediately. Just before the halftime whistle,
Alexia Valdez converted a crucial penalty kick at 45:00, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Second Half: Lower Columbia came out firing, determined to equalize. They dominated the second half, firing 13 shots on goal compared to Clark's 5.
Avery Kimball was particularly active, with 6 shots, all on target.
Angelina Hopwood also provided consistent pressure, contributing 4 shots, with 1 on goal. Despite these efforts, Clark's goalkeeper Eleanor Allison put on an incredible display, recording 9 saves in the second half alone, and a total of 11 for the match.
While the Devils offense surged in the second half, they were stymied by Penguins defense and Allison's standout performance in goal. Despite falling behind early, the team's relentless attacking in the second half showcased their determination, but ultimately, the equalizer proved elusive.
