Devils Take 3 of 4 In Yakima

(Yakima, WA) – The Lower Columbia softball team had a fun time in Yakima, taking three of four games at the NWAC Cross Over Tournament on April 15-16.
 
Saturday Game #1 – Lower Columbia 2 Edmonds 1
 
Teeghan Reams had an outstanding outing in the circle with six solid innings to get the victory.  Reams allowed just one run and three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
 
Reams came out for the 7th inning but gave up a solo homer to Nikki Andrade.  After a walk, head coach Traci Fuller brought on Alli Heater to try and get the save.  With bases loaded and just one out. Heater got a big strikeout and a groundout to first to end the game. Heater got the save.
 
The Devils offense was held in check by Edmonds pitcher Kennedy West who went six innings allowing just two runs.
 
Maliyah Twitty got the scoring started with an RBI single in the second inning.  Sawyer Stenson hit an RBI single in the 5th inning. Stenson was 3 for 3 in the game.
 
Saturday Game # 2 – Lower Columbia 7 Wenatchee Valley 1
 
Heater got the start and went four solid innings allowing just five hits and one run.  Sadie Knutson came into the game and tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
 
The Devils didn't waste any time scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.
 
Reams was 3 for 4 with three RBI's to lead the Devils attack.  Sunny Bennion went 2 for 4.
 
Sunday Game #1 – Douglas 9 Lower Columbia 7
 
Darby DeRuyter got the start and pitched well until running into trouble in the third.  The sophomore lefty went three innings, striking out four. Douglas had four straight hits in the third to tie the game 3-3.
 
Reams came in in relief and went 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs, two earned.  The Devils infield defense made some miscues that led to two Royals unearned runs.
 
Heater closed out the game with 1 2/3 innings allowing two runs, just one earned.
 
Down 9-6 heading to the bottom of the 7th, the Devils scored a run on a Destiny Dunlap RBI single.  Douglas got a final fly out to preserve the victory.
 
Leanna Russell went 2 for 3 with two RBI's. Bennion was 2 for 4 with a ribbie.  Kennedy Williams also had two RBI's.
 
Sunday Game #2 – Lower Columbia 26 Blue Mountain 2
 
The Devils broke open this game early with four runs in the first inning on two-out, two-run homers from Raychel Squibb and Twitty.
 
LCC then had 15 hitters come to the plate in the second inning scoring 11 runs. Twitty hit her second homer of the game in the long frame.
 
LCC added two more in the third when Heater hit a mammoth solo homer to right-center.  Russell and Ella Dillon then cashed in on back-to-back doubles.
 
The onslaught continued in the 4th with eight more runs.  Dunlap smoked a two-run blast.  Twitty had a memorable day as she hit an inside-the-park homer, her third four bagger of the game.  Reams added a two run jack.  Russell finished the offense with an RBI double in the 5th.
 
Sadie Knutson went the distance for the win.  The Devils had six homers in the game, led by Twitty's hat trick.
 
The Devils went 3-1 in the tournament and raised their record to 15-13 on the season.
 
LCC returns to South Region play Wednesday April 19th when they host Centralia for a 3 pm double header.
