Day 3 of fall practice for LCC Softball was not spent on the field. Instead, the Red Devils took on more important business than hitting, pitching, fielding and throwing.
Â
On Thursday, September 10, the Devils stepped away from the softball diamond to work together to serve the Longview-Kelso community, as part of the United Way's Day of Caring.
Â
The Day of Caring brings together individuals, businesses, and organizations for one powerful day of hands-on projects that support local nonprofits. LCC Softball has joined the local effort every year since 2015.
Â
Their day was spent at the Children's Discovery Museum in Kelso, a child-friendly space located in the old Catlin Elementary School – where children and their families can engage in imaginative, interactive, and hands-on learning experiences in the arts, science, and social play.Â
Â
The 18 Red Devil players worked in three groups of six to wash windows, sand and paint interior doors, power wash, clean out a cluttered storage area and other cleanup work. It was a great team effort and a perfect opportunity to work together and bond as a new team early in the season.
Â
"It was a fun day, and I was really proud of how our women worked together to serve an awesome organization like the Children's Museum," Coach
Traci Fuller said. "The Day of Caring is a tradition for our program and is a highlight of our season."
