(Longview, WA) – The last time the Lower Columbia men's basketball team lost at home was December 19, 2021. The team that beat the Devils then did it again on Wednesday December 7
th.
The Portland Panthers beat Lower Columbia 74-72 at Myklebust Gym.
LCC had won 11 straight games at home dating back to last season.
Portland gets inspired when they visit Longview but they had to hold on for dear life. Up seven points with 1:28 left, it appeared Portland had the game in the bag. But LCC wouldn't quit.
Emanuel Steward hit a three with six seconds left and when Marcus Collins missed the first of two free throws the Devils had a chance with five seconds left. Steward raced down the court and got a good look at a runner. The ball hit the rim, went up into the air in what seemed like an eternity, but fell off. The Panthers survived for the win.
Steward led LCC with 16 points and four assists.
Cole Hardy had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kaden Horn had 11 points for LCC.
Jonah Zeller had five blocks to go with his five points.
Portland was led by the 19 points each for Israel Edwards and Josiah Sewell.
There can be no claim of home cooking in this one. Portland was 21 of 26 at the free throw line. The Devils were 8 for 14 at the stripe.
The second ranked Red Devils drop to 6-1 on the season. Lower Columbia will have a tough test at Shoreline Friday December 9
th. Game time is 2 pm.
Lower Columbia will tray and start a new home win streak on Sunday December 11
th when they host Blue Mountain in a 2 pm game at Myklebust Gymnasium.
