Devils Win 2018 Home Opener

The Lower Columbia College women's soccer team closed out the non-league portion of the schedule with a 5-1 victory over the Treasure Valley Chukars on Sunday September 2.

Shelby Vermulen made a triumphant return to Northlake Field, scoring two goals to lead LCC.  Vermulen was the LCC goalkeeper in the 2016 season before joining the military in combat medical treatment.  She returned to take classes at Lower Columbia and decided to re-join the team.

Vermulen scored her first goal at the 23 minute mark off a Kalina Makaiwi assist.  She scored again just three minutes later on a Kaylee Murray helper.

The Red Devils got on the board first at the 11 minute mark when Sierra Thornock got behind the Chukar defense and got things started.

The Willis twins got going after Vermulen's two goals.  Ashlynn Willis scored on an assist by Kayla Willis at 38'.  Kayla then scored at 43' on an assist by Karen Gonzalez.

Treasure Valley's Elexus Nochebuena scored their lone goal at 34'.

Up 5-1 at the half, then Devils throttled back the attack and worked on combinations and line-ups.  LCC has one week to prepare for the tough West region opener at home against Highline.  The match on Saturday September 8th begins at 11:00 am.
