It was a day to play softball, honor the sophomores and, as it turned out, win an NWAC South Region championship.
Lower Columbia took two games from Chemeketa on Tuesday May 8th at Tam O'Shanter Park. LCC won the first game 13-5 and took the second game 13-4. When Clark defeated SW Oregon earlier in the day, it set the stage for the Devils to wrap up the division title with two games to play.
In the first game,
Nizhoni Wheeler ran her record to 16-3 with four innings of three-hit ball.
Briana Harvill and
Kaylee Strahan led the way, each with two doubles and three RBI's.
Allyssa Gustafson had two hits and so did
Arielle Burnett.
LCC made no doubt early by scoring six runs in the first inning.
In between games, seven soon departing players were honored by the fans, coaches and teammates.Â
Shanay Dotson, Burnett, Harvill,
Cheyenne Gilbertson,
Aurora Gouley,
Christine Robbins and Gustafson were joined by parents, family and friends.
The second game saw the Red Devils come out and score six runs in the first inning again.
Robbins got the win going four innings and scattering nine hits. Wheeler came on and pitched an inning to make sure the game ended in five innings.
Harvill had another big game with three hits, her 12th homer and four RBI's.
Burnett was 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI. Robbins had two hits and two RBI. Gouley and Strahan had two hits each.
The Devils go to 21-5 in the division and wrap it up with two games to play Friday at Grays Harbor. LCC is 34-12 on the season.
The South Region title is the first in the seven year LCC coaching career for
Traci Fuller.
