The Lower Columbia College softball team scored 29 runs on 25 hits in a NWAC South Region sweep over Grays Harbor on Friday April 6th in Kelso.
The double header got off to a flying start for LCC as they scored six runs in the first inning and five more in the second on the way to a 15-3 victory in game one. The game was shortened to 4 1/2 innings due to the mercy rule.
Sophia Zbaeren had a big game, going 2 for 2 with three RBI's and three runs scored. The freshman from Kelso hit her first college home run.
Allyssa Gustafson also had two hits and three RBi's.Â
Arielle Burnett and
Kaylee Strahan each had two RBI's.
The offense backed the five solid innings of
Christine Robbins who went five frames giving up three hits and three runs. Robbins also helped her own cause with a solo homer.
It was more of the same in game two as the Devils pounded out 15 hits in a 14-1 victory. Gustafson continued on a tear, going 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBI's. Gus had six RBI's on the day.
Cheyann Bartlett went 3 for 4 with three RBI's, both collegiate highs.
Burnett hit a a solo long ball to open the bottom of the first inning for LCC.Â
Aurora Gouley had two RBi's.Â
Cheyenne Gilbertson went 3 for 4 with two RBi's.
Nizhoni Wheeler went four innings of one-hit, shutout ball to get the victory in the circle.Â
Caitlyn Grogan went the final inning. Combined, Wheeler and Grogan gave up just two base hits in the 4 1/2 inning affair.
With the sweep, LCC keeps a share of first place in the South Region at 10-2. The Devils are slated to play at Centralia in a 3 pm double header at Fort Borst Park on Tuesday April 10th.
