Huge Sweep At Hood


In a battle of the top two teams in the NWAC South division, the Lower Columbia softball team came away with two impressive wins.

The Red Devils beat the Mt. Hood Saints 8-1 and 11-4 in Gresham to enhance LCC's hold on first place. Hood slips to third behind SW Oregon.

Nizhoni Wheeler was impressive in the first game on Saturday April 28th, allowing just two hits and one run in the complete game victory.  She took a no-hitter into the fifth before the Saints got a hit and scored their lone run.

Wheeler struck out 10 and walked just two. The freshman raised her record to 13-2.

The Devils came out swinging with three runs in the first inning before Wheeler took the circle.

Briana Harvil had three hits and an RBI.  Sarah Potwin had two hits and two RBI's including a home run.  Cheyenne Gilbertson also had two hits and two RBI's.

Shanay Dotson also had two hits with a run batted in.

Christine Robbins pitched game two and she was also treated to a lead before she threw a pitch. The Devils scored four in the first on four RBI singles.

Robbins allowed a homer and two runs in two innings of work.  LCC went back to Wheeler in the third inning and she closed it out with five innings allowing four hits, two runs and four strikeouts.

Arielle Burnett had a huge game for the Devils as she went 5 for 5 with three runs and an RBI.

Aurora Gouley also had a monster game with three hits including a homer, double and four RBI's 

Kaylee Strahan hit a home run as part of her two hit game with three RBI's.  Alyssa Gustafson had three hits.

With the sweep, LCC is now 17-3 in the South and 29-9 overall.

The Devils have a huge home double header with second place Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday May 2nd.  Start time at Tam O'Shanter Park is 3 pm.
