The NWAC Cross Over tournament in Portland was cancelled so teams could make up rained out league games, but the Lower Columbia softball team was busy anyway.
The Devils played six games in three days over a span of about 54 hours against good competition.
The weekend began with a double header against Yakima Valley on Friday April 20th at Tam O'Shanter park. There was a good crowd on hand for ASLCC Spirit Night.
Yakima Valley tied the game with a single run in the top of the sixth inning, but the Devils came back and scored what turned out the game winner in the bottom of the inning, a 4-3 LCC victory.
Christine Robbins got the win going six innings. After the Devils regained the lead,
Nizhoni Wheeler came on in the top of the 7
th to retire the side for the save.
Kaylee Strahan had a great game with three hits and an RBI.
Briana Harvill had two hits and two RBI's including her sixth home run of the season.
Game two was not a nail-biter. The Devils scored three runs in the first, three in the second and cruised to a 9-1 victory.

Shanay Dotson and

The scene shifted to 7
th Avenue Park in Longview for a Saturday double header against Walla Walla. The games were added to the schedule after the NWAC Cross Over cancellation so Tam O'Shanter Park was not available.
The Devils scored six runs in the first inning off the tough Warriors. A walk and an error by the pitcher opened the floodgates as the Devils had five consecutive singles take the early 6-0 lead.
The LCC offense then was turned away with nothing over three innings as the Warriors chipped away at the Devil lead.
The 5
th inning was key for LCC as they scored three runs to regain the momentum. Gustafson smashed her fifth homer of the year followed by three straight singles that gave LCC a 9-6 lead.
Walla Walla got within one with two runs in the sixth off Wheeler, but Nizhoni buckled down to retire the side in the 7
th. Wheeler got her 10
th victory of the season.
Aurora Gouley had two hits and three RBI's.
In the second game against Walla Walla, LCC had a 5-2 lead five innings, but the Warriors exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. The Devils came right back to tie up the game on a
Kendell Clauson RBI fielders choice.
After a scoreless 7
th, the game went into extra innings and the international tiebreaker was implemented. The Warriors scored seven innings in the 8
th and went on to a 13-7 victory.
Harvill had another outstanding game as she was 3 for 4 with four RBI's. One of those hits was her eighth homer of the season. Strahan also went deep, part of a 2 for 4 game for her.
The Devils then spent Sunday in Gresham at Mt. Hood College where they played Treasure Valley and North Idaho.
Against TV, Wheeler was dominant as she went seven innings of one hit ball as LCC won it 5-0. A 7
th inning double by the Chukars broke up the no-hit bid. "Nones" struck out 12 and walked just one.
Clauson had the big hit in the game, a two run homer. Clauson was 2 for 2 with three RBI's. Gilbertson and Gouley had two hits each.
The weekend concluded with an 8-5 loss to top ranked North Idaho. LCC had a 5-4 lead after four innings, but the Cardinals scored three in the 5
th and one in the 6
th to get win.
Robbins, Grogan and Wheeler split up the pitching duties. Grogan ended up with the loss.
Gustafson continued her torrid hitting by going 2 for 4 with two RBI's including her sixth homer of the season and third of the weekend.
LCC will take Monday off and rest for a league double header at Centralia on Tuesday April 24
th. The games have been postponed three times already, but the weather forecast is good and so it should be game on at Fort Borst Park. The first game begins at 3 pm.
By winning four of six games over the weekend, the Devils are now 23-9 on the season. LCC is 11-3 in the South Region good for first place.
