In one of the most impressive double header sweeps against a quality opponent, the Lower Columbia softball team two-timed the Clackamas Cougars 9-0 and 8-0 on Wednesday March 28th at Tam O'Shanter Park in Kelso.
Nizhoni Wheeler tossed a complete game four-hitter in the first game, and
Caitlyn Grogan and
Christine Robbins combined on a seven hitter in the nightcap. Impressive defense and timely hitting was all part of the big day, that vaulted the Red Devils to a 5-1 record in the South Region.
As Wheeler cruised in the opener, the Red Devils exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 9-0 under the mercy rule.
Leadoff batter
Kendell Clauson went 2 for 4 with three RBI's including her first homer of the season.Â
Briana Harvill also went 2 for 4 with three RBI's including two long balls.
Alyssa Gustafson also hit a homer in the first game.
The Devils kept it going in the second game as Clauson had two hits and another homer raising her batting average to .516.
Shanay Dotson went 3 for 4 with an RBI.Â
Cheyenne Gilbertson went 2 for 4 with an RBI.Â
Aurora Gouley also had a big game going 2 for 3 with three RBI's
The Devils are riding a five game win streak as they get ready to host the Mt. Hood Saints for a double header Friday March 30th. The game time is at 2 pm at Tam O'Shanter Park.
