Sunny Coos Bay Oregon was touched by Gray.
Twice.
Lower Columbia freshman catcher
Kami Gray hit two homers and drove in five runs leading the Red Devils to a 10-6 win in game two of a double header on Tuesday March 27th. It capped off a double header sweep for LCC, who earlier held on for a 3-2 victory in the first game.
In the opener, the Devils scored two runs in the first inning with an
Allyssa Gustafson RBI single and a
Sarah Potwin bases loaded walk.Â
Nizhoni Wheeler was masterful through the first three innings and she had a 3-0 lead when
Shanay Dotson hit an RBI single in the 4th.
But Southwestern Oregon made Wheeler work hard in the 7th, scoring two runs and with the tying run at third. Wheeler coaxed an RBI groundout to third and LCC won game one.
The Devils also got off to a good start in the second game as they plated two first inning unearned runs. But Devil starter
Caitlyn Grogan struggled with control in the bottom of the first, walking the first two Lakers on eight pitches. SWOC took the lead 3-2.
Dotson tied it up 3-3 in the second with an RBI hit.
Gustafson hit a solo homer to give LCC a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish. Gray then blasted a two-out, two-run homer to build the lead to 6-3 in the third.
LCC continued to play long ball in the 4th inning as
Briana Harvill smacked a 2-out solo homer.
Gray came back up in the 6th and drove an encore blast over the wall for a three-run homer.
Grogan settled down after the early control issues and she came away with the victory.Â
Christine Robbins entered the circle in the 5th and went three solid frames to get the save.
The Devils go to 3-1 in the South Division with the sweep. It will be a quick turnaround after the long bus ride home as LCC will host Clackamas on Tuesday March 28th, a makeup from last Saturday's rainout. The twin bill, weather permitting is set for 3 pm at Tam O'Shanter Park.
