The Lower Columbia College softball team is ready to gear up for the South Region play after taking three of four games at the NWAC Inter Region event at the RAC Complex in Lacey.
On Friday March 9th, the Devils shutout Shoreline 6-0 behind the one-hitter from
Christine Robbins and then blasted Pierce 19-6 in a five inning mercy rule game.
Against Shorleline, Robbins had a perfect game broken up when the Dolphins came up with a 7th inning double. Robbins was masterful, striking out seven to get the shutout victory.
Kami Gray had two hits including an RBI double.
Cheyenne Gilbertson went 2 for 2.
Allyssa Gustafson had an RBI double.
Against Pierce, the Devils exploded for 16 hits and shortened the affair with a nine run 4th inning.
Starting pitcher
Caitlyn Grogan allowed four runs in the first inning, but her teammates came back to counter with six runs in the bottom of the first. Skylar Hubnter and Gilbertson hit RBI doubles and
Kaylee Strahan smacked a two-run homer. Strahan also had an RBI double in the game.
Gilbertson added a three-run homer later in the game. She finished with four RBI's.
Briana Harvill had the big hit of the game, a grand slam home run.
Arielle Burnett also went deep. her two run homer was part of a three hit game.
Skylar Hunter also had an RBI double.
The Devils came back to Lacey on Saturday March 10th and lost to Highline 4-3 and beat Edmonds 9-8.
In the loss to the T-Birds, Robbins pitched well. She was staked to a 3-0 lead when the Devils scored three in the third inning. Gilbertson stroked an RBI double and then Robbins helped herself with an RBI double of her own.
The Thunderbirds came back to nick Robbins for the four runs to get the win.
LCC jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Tritons. Gilbertson hit a double and came around on
Sarah Potwin's two run homer.
Shanay Dotson, just one day removed from playing in the NWAC basketball Elite Eight, hit a two-run double in her first at-bat of the season.
Edmonds came back to score five unearned runs in the third inning to tie up the game. LCc then retook the lead with three runs in the third highlighted by RBI single from
Sophia Zbaeren and Burnett.
Another LCC hoopster came out to contribute.
Nizhoni Wheeler came in and pitched well in relief. She got the victory after a Potwin RBI single and then a diving grab by Dotson to end the game.
The Devils are 8-4 on the season as they get ready for the homer opener and league opener Saturday March 17th against the Centralia Trail Blazers. The double header begins at 12 noon at Heerensperger Field at Tam O'Shanter Park in Kelso.
