Never Say Die Devils Pull One Out Of The Hat

It wasn't looking good.

With five minutes to play in a must-win game to stay in the NWAC playoff hunt, the Lower Columbia College women's soccer team found itself down 2-1 at Pierce.

That's when the Devils decided to go.

Chloe Brimhall's goal at 86' tied it up and then Jessica Jude scored the stoppage time game winner with the clock at 90'. Lower Columbia beat Pierce 3-2 on Wednesday October 24th at Heritage Park in Puyallup.

LCC came behind on two occasions.  Down 1-0, Sierra Thornock scored an unassisted goal at 29' to tie it up at 1-1.

Pierce regained the lead with a second half goal that made it 2-1.

The remarkable comeback began with under five minutes left. LCC started to push knowing a loss or a tie would do no good.

Brimhall had never scored a collegiate goal until a header last Saturday against Grays Harbor.  But she made it two goals in two games when she hit the net to tie it up.

Jude got loose for the game winner when Shelby Vermeulen negotiated the assist triggering a celebration in the waning seconds.

Kennedy Werner had six saves in goal.  The Devils had five corner kicks while Pierce didn't have any.

The Devils remain tied with Tacoma for the third and final playoff berth from the West Region.  Both teams have 25 points heading into the final regular season matches on Saturday. The Devils travel to Bellevue while Tacoma is at home against Pierce. Both games start at 12 pm.

Should the team remain tied after Saturday, LCC would host Tacoma for a one-game play-in tiebreaker Monday at 4 pm at Northlake Field.
