It was one of those matches that if you win, you stay in playoff contention. If you lose, the postseason is nearly out of reach.
The Lower Columbia women's soccer team came up big in a 1-0 victory over Tacoma Wednesday October 10
th at Northlake Field.
Shelby Vermeulen scored her 12th goal of the season and it was the lone goal of the match. The goal came at the 37
th minute mark on an assist by
Kayla Willis.
Led by the 90 minutes of defense from
Baylee Wright and
Sierra Thornock, the Devils were able to turn away several good scoring chances by the Titans.
Goalkeeper
Kennedy Werner was up to the challenge, getting the shutout with six saves. She turned away two Titan opportunities where there was a jumble in front of the crease.
Tacoma outshot the Devils 15-9, but LCC got the one that counted.
With the win the Devils go to 5-3-1 in West play. Tacoma drops to 6-4-0. LCC is now just two points behind TCC for the third and final playoff spot in the West. Tacoma has 18 points. The Devils have 16.
The Red Devils travel to the Starfire Complex in Tukwila for a matchup with 8-0-1 Highline. The action starts at 12 pm on Saturday October 13
th.
