The Lower Columbia Red Devil softball team came out fired up and swept the Clark Penguins on Saturday May 6
th in Kelso.
Â
The game scores were 9-0 and 14-6, both achieved via the 8-run mercy rule.
Â
Jessica Gibson got plenty of offensive support but didn't need much. The sophomore lefty pitched a five inning no-hitter. Gibby walked one and just one other Clark batter reached on an error. Gibson was masterful.
Â
The Devils played longball as
Aurora Gouley led off the game with a solo homer, the first of four over the fence shots. Rothwell hit a bomb off the cell tower in right field,
Myranda Krull went yard and
Bailey Hockett ended the game with a walkoff two-run shot.
Â
Gouley was 3 for 3.
Shanay Dotson also went 3 for 3.Â
Christine Robbins was 2 for 3. Hockett and Rothwell both went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's.
Â
LCC took complete control of game two by scoring 11 runs in the second inning alone. There were plenty of highlights in the frame including a Rothwell two-run double, a two-run homer for Robbins,
Cheyenne Gilbertson with an RBI double and Brianna Harvill's two-run single.
Â
The Penguins extended the game to a sixth inning by scoring five runs in the 5
th.
Â
Sam Boyce provided an RBI single in the 5
th. The Devils then won it in the 6
th on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Gouley.
Â
Gibson started game two and was relieved by Robbins and
Taylor Brooks. Robbins got the victory.
Â
The Devils go to 13-9 in the South and 15-11 overall.
Â
LCC will travel to Centralia on Sunday May 7
th to complete a double header that was suspended last Wednesday when severe weather hit Hub City. The game will resume in the 4
th inning with Centralia leading 4-1. There will also be a second game.
