There were plenty of things to like about the LCC softball teams final regular season games.
Seven outstanding sophomores were honored. The Devils hit five homers in a big 11-3 game one victory. The rain held off to complete the regular season.
The only bummer was the 4th inning of game two where the Centralia Blazers scored six runs to key an 8-4 victory.
With the split, Centralia tied LCC for third place with identical 16-12 records. But by taking the season series 3-1, the Blazers get the automatic berth into the NWAC tournament. LCC doesn't worry about it because they are a solid 10th in the RPI and will go to the tournament beginning next Friday in Spokane.
The sophomores were great in the first game on Friday.Â
Sam Boyce had two homers and fellow soph's
Jessica Gibson, Bailey Hocket and
Mariah Mendez also went deep.
It was more than enough for winning pitcher Gibson who tossed a five inning complete game, allowing just six hits and three runs. Gibby is 11-5 on the season.
Boyce went 3-3 with five RBI's. Mendez came up huge with her three-run homer. Hockett was 2-3.
The nightcap sixth was a nightmare as the Blazers sent 12 batters to the plate and took advantage of a let down on defense.
Taylor Brooks took the loss.
Christine Robbins came on and provided 3 1/3 innings of solid relief.
Shanay Dotson,
Aurora Gouley, Boyce and Brianna Harvill all had two hits for the Devils.
The between game ceremony to honor the seven sophomores was wel done and emotional. Framed photographs and a shower of gifts were given to Boyce, Gibson, Brooks, Hockett, Mendez,
Hannah Rothwell and
Marissa Gardner.
Rothwell and Gardner have been battling injuries both both stepped up and delivered pinch hits on the day.
