Devils Doing Work To Take Three of Four

The LCC softball team had a much easier time on a sunny Friday. A rainy Saturday was a much different story. Through it all, the Devils won three of four games to get over .500 in the tough NWAC South division.

Under beautiful sunny skies at Tam O'Shanter Park on Friday April 21st, the Devils two-timed Grays Harbor 8-0 and 10-2. Both games were shortened due to the mercy rule.

Jessica Gibson tossed a no-hitter in the five inning first game. Gibby walked just one and struck out four. She also helped herself out with a solo homer.

Christine Robbins had a huge day offensively going 2 for 3 with two homers and six RBI's.

Hannah Rothwell had a hit and an RBI.

The second game was a close one with LCC down to Grays Harbor 2-1 after 4 1/2 innings.  The Red Devils then exploded for six runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to trigger the eight run mercy rule.

Gibson started that game also, going three innings allowing five hits and one run.  Taylor Brooks came on and got the win with three innings of one hit, one run relief.

Marissa Gardner had her best offensive game as a Red Devil going 2 for 4 with three RBI.  Gardner's two-run double in the 5th was the key hit.

Mariah Mendez was 2 for 2 with two RBI's. Bailey Hockett and Cheyenne Gilbertson each had two hits and an RBI.

Saturday's weather was a different story.  The twin bill with Mt. Hood began at 9am and after the Saints hit a two run homer in the top of the first, the skies opened up.  It took three hours and 40 minutes for the rain to stop and the field to be repaired before action could continue.

The Devils answered with two runs to tie it after the long first inning including Aurora Gouley's lead off homer.  But the Saints scored three in the second and later would blow it open.

Robbins took the loss, allowing eight runs and 11 hits in six innings of work.  Brooks came on and allowed three hits and two runs in the 7th.

Robbins also had a home run. Gibson also had two hits.

Gibby came back and provided another pitching gem in the second game as she went the distance allowing no runs, scattering seven hits in the Devils 1-0 victory over the Saints.

The game was scoreless after 5 1/2 innings when Robbins hit a solo homer.

Gibson got the final out after a two-out triple in the 7th to preserve the victory.

Kudos go out to the Red Devils who worked awfully hard to get the field playable on Saturday.  The Saints also helped with the tarp pulls.

LCC is now 9-7 in the South and 11-9 overall.

There are no games scheduled this week, although the Devils still have a road double header at Centralia to make up.
