It what has certainly been an odd season with rainouts and tourney cancellations, the Lower Columbia Red Devils finally got to play a home game.
And it was a good one.
The second one? Not so much.
The Devils defeated Southwestern Oregon 6-3 on Friday March 31st at Heerensperger Field at Tam O'Shanter Park. The second game of the twin bill was all SWOC as the Lakers won 11-1 in five innings.
The big hit in the Devils win was
Hannah Rothwell's three run homer in a five run third inning. Rothwell also had a double in the game.
Sam Boyce also had two hits in the game.
Jessica Gibson started in the circle and went 4 2/3 innings before she ran into some trouble. Coach
Traci Fuller brought in Rothwell who got a double play ball and a flyout to end the Laker threat. Rothwell went 2 1/3 innings to earn the save for Gibson.
The Devils ran into trouble immediately in game two. Shevan DeFreitas hit her 10th home run, a solo shot off Devil starter
Taylor Brooks. The Lakers then blew it open with six runs in the second inning. DeFreitas later hit a two-run homer, her 11th on the season for SWOC.
Laker starter Hannah Hirning held the Red Devils to just one basehit, a single by
Aurora Gouley.
The Devils have a quick turnaround as they host Grays Harbor at 12 pm Saturday April 1st at Tam O'Shanter Park. You can watch the game on Devil Vision. Go to You Tube and search LCC Red Devil Athletics.
