The Lower Columbia College softball team didn't let a disapointing loss get them down.
A great comeback that tied the game late and then another comeback that fell short, the Devils dropped a 6-4 game to Clackamas on Saturday April 30th.
But the Devils came right back with a sparkling pitching performance from
Krystina Fischer to win the second game 8-0. The split keeps the Devils a game back of Mt. Hood at 9-3 in the South. LCC is now 26-8 overall.
In the opener, LCC scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three. The Cougars then plated three in the top of the 7th to take a 6-3 lead. LCC came back with a run in the bottom of 7th and had the winning runs on base only to fall short.
Jessica Gibson went 3 for 4 with an RBI.Â
Nicole Bolasky and
Sam Boyce had two hits each with an RBI. Bolasky also stole a base to increase her school record total to 46.
Bailey Ellis went the distance in the circle, allowing four earned runs in seven innings. She was victimized by two Clackamas homers.
In the second game, Fischer was totally in control. The sophomore lefty went six innings allowing just two hits. Her complete game gem featured 10 strikeouts.
The Devils had a 3-0 lead after fouor frames and then blew it open with three in the 5th and two in the sixth, winning on the mercy rule.
Hannah Rothwell belted her 5th homer of the season.Â
Ashley Kelly extended her school record hitting streak, now at 30, and added to her school-record doubles mark of 20. Kelly had two RBI's to increase her total to 54.
Gibson and
Madison Barr had two hits each. Bolasky added three more steals to put her total at an incredible 49.
The Devils return to action Wednesday May 4th when they host the Southwestern Oregon Lakers in a home double header. The action at Heerensperger Field at Tam O'Shanter Park begins at 3:00 pm. You can watch the game on Devil Vision. Go to You Tube and search LCC Red Devil Athletics.
