The big hits never came.
After being swept by Mt. Hood on Tuesday May 10th, the Lower Columbia College softball team now will forward to the regular season finales with a chance to get second in the NWAC South.
Hood beat LCC 4-3 and 13-7.
Behind 3-0 in the first game, the Devils began a comeback with an
Ashley Kelly RBI single in the third.
Down 4-1,
Madison Barr hit a two-run double in the 5th, but the comeback fell short.
LCC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game including a
Jessica Gibson RBI single. The Saints then hit two solo homers in the first to tie, then blew it open with five runs in the second and six in the third.
LCC didn't quit as they rallied for four runs in the 4th inning.Â
Sam Boyce and
Hannah Rothwell hit homers in that rally.
The results were dissapointing, but more so was the injury to freshman
Shyanne Chandler. Pending an MRI, Chandler is feared out for the rest of the season with hip and knee issues.
The Devils are out of South title contention, but they are still alive for 2nd place and the automatic berth to the NWAC tournament. LCC hosts Chemeketa on Friday May 13th in a 3 pm double header at Tam O'Shanter park. A sweep coupled with a Clackamas at SWOCC split would get the number two berth.
If LCC finishes third, they are in a solid position to make the tournament via RPI.
The games Friday will feature Sophomore Day ceremonies in between the two games.
