The Lower Columbia softball team had an eventful day in Salem while completing a double header sweep over Chemeketa on Tuesday April 26th.
Ashley Kelly set the LCC record for doubles and extended her school record hitting streak to 30 games. The Devils defeated the Storm 12-2 in five innings and completed the brooming with a 14-4 six inning victory.
Kelly had two doubles in the first game, giving her 19 on the season. It eclipses the mark of 18 set by former Red Devil great Janessa Roening back in 2004.
With a home run in the second game, Kelly extended her hitting streak to 30 games, a mark that was set by Amanda Reynolds (26) back in 1996.
The Devils came out smokin' in the first game as
Sam Boyce hit a 2-run single and
Hannah Rothwell followed with a two-run double. Rothwell was back in the lineup after missing three games with a facial injury.Â
Madison Barr capped the opening inning with an RBI single.
Kelly's single in the second extended her streak to 29 games, then she added the two doubles to break the record.
Jessica Gibson hit a two-run homer, her team leading 9th of the season.
Nicole Bolasky stole her NWAC-leading 44th base.
Krystina Fischer went four solid innings.Â
Taylor Brooks came in and closed it out.
It was also a hot start in game two as Boyce and Gibson hit back-to-back homers to give LCC a 3-0 lead after one.
Shyanne Chandler had a two-out double in the second. Boyce then added a second homer in the third and the rout was on.
Brooks got the start and ran into trouble in the 4th, but
Bailey Ellis came on and put out the fire and closed out the game strong.
Kelly then hit her streak-advancing dinger and then LCC blew it open with six runs in the sixth featuring two RBI's from Gibson and an RBI triple from Barr.
The Devils are now 8-2 in the South, still tied with Mt. Hood. LCC is 25-7 overall as they prepar to host Clackamas in a home double header Saturday April 30th at 12 pm.
