The race for the NWAC Softball South Division tightened on Saturday April 23rd when the Mt. Hood Saints came to Kelso and took two games from the Lower Columbia Red Devils.
The Devils and Saints are now tied for first at 6-2.
Game one started wild as Hood scored two in the first and the Devils countered with three. But it was Mt. Hood that consistantly stayed on the attack as they collected 17 hits and pulled away with a four run 4th frame.
Kayla Byers was the star for Mt. Hood as she pitched seven innings and provided three hits and four RBI's. Her two run homer chased Devil starter
Bailey Ellis in the 4th inning. Ellis went 3 1/3 and took the loss.
Nicole Bolasky had three hits and increased her stolen base record to 41 with a theft.Â
Ashley Kelly had two hits and two RBI's.Â
Jessica Gibson had two hits including a solo homer, her 8th of the season.
In game two, the Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead and starter
Krystina Fischer was in control through three innings. But Hood plated three in the 4th and six in the 5th to win going away.
Fischer went 4 1/3 innings and suffered just her second loss of the season against 13 wins. Gibson was solid in relief as she allowed just two hits and no runs in two innings of work.
Maggie Harshaw hit a homerun for LCCÂ Kelly and
Shyanne Chandler had two hits for the Devils.
Megan Marcy hit a pair of two-run homers to lead the Saints.
The Devils will try and bounce back on Tuesday April 26th when they travel to Salem for a 2 pm double header against the Chemeketa Storm. The games are at Wallace Marine Park.
