Devils Take Three Of Four In Yakima

The Lower Columbia softball team did a great job in the circle in winning three of four games at the NWAC Crossover tournament in Yakima April 15-17.

Sophomores Bailey Ellis and Krystina Fischer led the way with great outings as the Red Devils offense was just a bit below normal par over the weekend.

That was not the case in the tourney opener Friday night as LCC pounded out 19 hits and beat Yakima Valley 19-1 in five innings.  Jessica Gibson led the onslaught by going 4 for 5 with four RBI's.

Sam Boyce was 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI's.  Hannah Rothwell hit a home run, part of a 2 for 4 night with four RBI.  Mariah Mendez and Nicole Bolasky each had two hits.  Bolasky stole her 34 base.

Saturday, the Devils defeated Treasure Valley 4-1, plating three runs in the fateful 5th inning.  Fischer went the distance on a five-hitter with six strikeouts.

Boyce went 2 for 2 with two RBI's.  Madison Barr and Bolasky each had two hits.  Bolasky added steal number 35 on the season.

Saturday afternoon, the bats went cold in a 5-1 loss to Centralia.  LCC was held to just five hits. Shyanne Chandler had two of them.

Rothwell took the loss as she gave up three runs in five innings of work.

The Devils ended the weekend on a high note with a 4-3, 10-inning win over Everett.  The game featured three innings using the international tie-breaker rules to speed up play.  Gibson put an end to the marathon with a walk-off, game-winning RBI double in the 10th.

Ellis went four innings, giving up two runs. Fischer then came on and sparkled with six innings to get the victory.

Bolasky had two steals to tie the Lower Columbia College record for streals with 38. She joins Janessa Roening at the top of the stolen base record board not event to the halfway mark of the league season.

The Devils were wearing pink jerseys to show support and awarness in the fight against breast cancer.

LCC is 22-5 on the season as they host Clark in a single game Tuesday April 19th at 3 pm. The game was rained out last week following an LCC win in the opener of the double-header.
