The final games of winter were good. The first full day of spring not so much.
The Lower Columbia softball team swept two games on Saturday March 19th at the Vancouver Girls Softball complex in Vancouver. The two scheduled games on Sunday March 20th were rained out due to wet grounds.
The Devils defeated Grays Harbor 9-1 in five innings and followed that up with a 12-1, five inning victory over Olympic.
Against the Harbor,
Jessica Gibson got the scoring started with a solo home run. The Devils then exploded for five runs in the 4th inning including an RBI double by
Ashley Kelly, a run scoring triple from
Hannah Rothwell, a sacrifice fly from
Mariah Mendez and RBI singles from
Sam Boyce and
Bailey Hockett.
After giving up a first inning run,
Bailey Ellis retired 11 straight to get the victory.
Taylor Brooks closed out the work with a scoreless 5th.
Against Olympic, Gibson again went deep, a two run shot. The Devils jumped on the Rangers with eight runs in the first three innings.
Nicole Bolasky was 3 for 3 with two singles and a double.
Kelly, Hockett, Bolasky and Gibson combined for eight hits and six RBI's.
Krystina Fischer improved to 2-0 on the season by allowing one run over three innings. Fischer struck out three, walked none and gave up just two hits. Rothwell had two scorless innings, allowing just two hits.
Sunday's games with Everett and Centralia were rained out as the Devils were warming up and ready to go.
The Devils are now 5-1 on the season as they head east for four game road trip. The Devils take on Walla Walla Tuesday March 22 at 12 pm at the Warriors field. The team then heads to Pendleton for a Wednesday double header at Blue Mountain, also at 12 noon.
