The LCC men's basketball team stepped out of conference for a pair of games in Northern California. Despite playing without head coach
Jim Roffler, the Devils took the sweep with wins over American River College and Shasta College on Friday and Saturday December 9th and 10th.
Coach Roffler has been battling illness the past week and decided to hand over the reigns to assistant coach
Allan Brown, a Sacramento native. Coach Brown along with trainer/assistant
Ed Earnest did a great job implementing the Roffler system and the Devils answered the call.
The Devils defeated American River 91-87 as
Keun Palu-Thompson had a great game with 27 points.
Spencer Sweet scored 21 and
Devin Johnson had 18.
The Devils moved on to Redding and beat Shasta College 80-76.
Brandon Cotton had a breakout game with 21 points.
Marcus Lord also stepped up when Johnson was saddled with foul problems. Lord also scored 21.
Palu-Thompson also added 18 against Shasta.
No official statistics were provided by either California host.
The Devils have won four straight and raised their record to 6-2 on the season.
LCC will host a four-team NWAC Cross Over tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday December 16-17-18 at Myklebust Gym.
Friday's games are Shoreline versus Walla Walla at 6 pm and LCC against Portland at 8 pm. Saturday has Portland against Shoreline at 6 pm followed by the Red Devils against Walla Walla at 8 pm. Sunday's games are Portland versus Walla Walla at 12 pm followed by LCC against Shoreline at 2 pm.
