The Red Devil softball team was in position for a win or two at Mt. Hood on Saturday May 2nd. Instead the team will have to deal with two close losses.
Despite losing to Mt. Hood 4-3 and 4-2, the Devils have clinched an NWAC Tournament berth. LCC has a four game lead over Clark with four games to go. The Devils swept Clark this season so would earn the berth in case of a tie.
In the first game, the Devils took a 3-1 lead into the 5th, but the Saints scored 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to come away victorious. Jenny Hagen hit her first LCC homerun, a two-run shot to give the Devils the lead. Delaney Kelley had a hit and an RBI.
Krystina Fischer went five innings, scattering seven hits and giving up three runs. Julia Breidt came on in the sixth, where Hood scratched out the game winning run.
In the second game, the Saints scored single runs in each of the first three innings of Breidt. Ju Ju then settled down the rest of the way, a complete game loss.
Sierra Richards had three hits to lead the LCC offense. Maggie Harshaw drove in both LCC runs in the 5th to make it close. Nicole Bolasky and Ashley Kelly each had two hits.
The Devils are now 8-8 in the South Region, 20-14 overall. The team will host Chemeketa on Tuesday May 5th. It's Sophomore Day as the eight Red Devil sophomores will be honored. The first game is slated for 3 pm at Tam O'Shanter Park.
