Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Say Hey Jimmy Ray! Devils Win is #500 For Coach Roffler.

500.  A pretty impressive number on a very impressive day.

Saturday January 31st will be one of the more memorable days in the history of LCC athletics. Five greats were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The new LCC Fitness Center and remodeled Myklebust Gym was opened to the public for the first time.  And LCC men's basketball coach Jim Roffler achieved yet another milestone in his incredible career, earning win #500 in his 24th season.

The Devils had to fight hard to do it.  The Clippers had a 20-9 lead in the first half and were in position to pull off the upset. But Coach Roffler was masterful down the stretch as LCC got the free throws and defensive stops needed to collect the victory.

The Devils had just two practice sessions on the new Myklebust floor prior to the game, judging by the 34 percent shooting.  But the Devils stayed the course and didn't let a sweatshirt get too tight around the waist.

Michael Dupree had 22 points to lead all scorers.  Despite suffering from flu-like symptons, Ryan Lee had 13 points and 11 rebounds, including a big defensive stop in the waning seconds.  Jamie Ford and Taylor Drey each had 11 points. Jeremy Burright had nine points and eight boards.

Former Red Devil Randy Sundberg and former LCC broadcaster and contributor Steve Hanson were introduced to the crowd just hours before induction into the LCC Hall of Fame.

With the special win, the Devils are now tied for first in the West at 7-2, 15-7 overall. The Devils travel to Highline Wednesday February 4th for an 8 pm game with the T-Birds, also 7-2 in league.

By the way, coach Roffler is now just 71 wins away from becoming the NWAC all-time leader.
