Box Score 3 The Lower Columbia College men's basketball team won a blowout and two thrillers to capture the Red Devil Classic for the first time since 2009.
LCC defeated Everett 92-90 in the championship game at the Mark MOrris Gymnasium. It was the 9th Red Devil Classic title for LCC in the 28 year history of the tournament.
Michael Dupree scored 20 points in the final and it was his heroics in the waning seconds that allowed LCC to rally from four down with just 30 seconds left. Dupree was named the tournament Most Vaulable Player.
Jeremy Burright had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the championship and he was honored as an All-Tournament player with three double-doubles in the event.
Jamie Ford played outstanding and he hit some big threes in the second half that allowed LCC to rally. Ford had 17 points and six assists and played great defense. Ryan Lee had 16 points and six rebounds.
The Devils 61 percent in the second half and 53 percent in the game.
Everett was led by All-Tourney selections Derek Brown Jr. with 30 points and Dominique McClendon with 23Â points.
Other All-Tourney selections included Dean Richie and Race Martin for Spokane.
On Saturday, the Devils came up with a hard fought 84-81 win over Spokane. Despite 27 points from Richie, the Devils took care of business. Jamiue Ford had 25 points to lead the way. Dupree had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Burright had 16 points and 10 boards. Taylor Drey also added 11 points.
LCC opened the tournament with a 107-78 victory over Olympic. Dupree scored 24 points and Burright had 16 poitns, 13 rebounds and six steals. Jamie Ford had 10 points and five assists.
The Devils got great contributions from the bench throughout the tournament. Austin Best-Cutright was solid in the championship. Kyle Bobo and Damien Ford added quality back court minutes. Jesse White played well in the win over Olympic.
LCC is now 4-0 on the young season and they will travel to Spokane for the Bigfoot Classic Friday. The Devils take on Big Bend at 4 pm Friday in the opening game of the tourney.
