Devils Battle Thunderbirds To 1-1 Draw

LONGVIEW, Wa. — The Lower Columbia College Red Devils (2-1-1, 0-0-1) drew 1-1 with Highline College (1-1-1, 0-0-1) on Saturday at Northlake Stadium. Despite a strong defensive effort with 11 saves from Leeann Williams, LCC managed to equalize in the second half to secure the tie.

Addison Hartley led the Red Devils with five shots, four of which were on target. Maylee Reynolds scored the only goal for Lower Columbia, converting one of her two shots. Sam Roundtree contributed with an assist, adding to the team's offensive efforts. In goal, Williams recorded 11 saves, facing 12 shots on target throughout the match.

The match began with both teams on the attack, as Highline's Cynthia LaPorta attempted a shot in the opening minute, saved by Williams. Highline took the lead at 6:50 when Zuley Martinez notched the first goal of the game. Addison Hartley responded with a shot at 11:23, but it went wide. Williams remained pivotal in defense, making saves against multiple Highline attempts, including shots by Raighen Wendler and Dalila Ortiz. The first half concluded with Highline leading 1-0, despite several attempts by Lower Columbia to equalize.

The second half saw Maylee Reynolds tally the equalizing goal in the 80th minute, assisted by Roundtree, bringing the score to 1-1. Highline's Martinez was active offensively, with two shots saved by Lower Columbia's Williams, while Selma Lawson made crucial saves for Highline. The half was marked by a flurry of fouls from both teams, alongside a yellow card issued to LCC's Marseille Edwards in the 82nd minute. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams unable to break the deadlock in the final minutes.

The Red Devils hold a record of 2-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. Highline is 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference competition. 

Up next, LCC will face Centralia College on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 2 pm in Centralia. The Red Devils will be looking to make a strong statement on the road.
