Game Recap: Softball |

Langsi Leads Devils to Clackamas Sweep

Sophomore left fielder Emma Langsi has certainly shined during her career in games played in Oregon City vs Clackamas College.

Last season her grand slam in extra innings helped propel LCC to a come-from-behind win over the Cougars on their home turf. This past Saturday the Oahu product hit 5-8 in a doubleheader sweep at Clackamas, with two doubles, three RBI and an outstanding catch and throw in game one to nail a runner at 3B, ending a Cougar rally on the unassisted double play.

For the weekend Lower Columba swept four games – two on Friday at home vs Clark, followed by two-timing Clackamas on Saturday. The four wins pushed the Devils winning streak to 34.

Lower Columbia is 39-2 overall and 24-0 in NWAC South Region play. Next up is Southwestern Oregon at home on Tuesday. The Lakers are in third place in the south at 17-5, while Mt. Hood is in second with a record of 16-4.

The doubleheader on Tuesday starts at 3:00 pm at Heerensperger Field at Tam O' Shanter Park in Kelso.

WEEKEND RECAP:

Friday, Game 1 – Lower Columbia 9, Clark 1 (six innings): Zoey Hughes pitched the complete game win, striking out seven Penguins while issuing just one walk. On top of that she belted her third home run of the season, a towering three-run shot to center field.

Avery Garvey was 3-4 with an RBI, Danika Hallom was 2-3 with an RBI and Hughes 2-2 with four RBI. Gabi Silveria, Dani Ambriz and Seyah Lindersmith also drove in one run each.

Friday, Game 2 – Lower Columbia 20, Clark 2 (five innings): Up 7-2 entering the fourth inning, LCC batted around twice and scored 13 runs to put the game away. The rally included 10 hits, the biggest one a grand slam by shortstop Kendall Humphrey, her seventh HR of the season.

Ava Eib was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit which was a two-run home run. Eib fanned 10 and gave up no walks. She also was 3-4 with a double at the plate.

Other top hitters were Cerenity Fake (2-2, 4 RBI, 2B), Silveria (2-3, an RBI and 3 runs scored) and Garvey (2-2, 3 RBI). Rylee Brown, Kennedy Selander and Humphrey each doubled and Elysa Nash tripled.

Saturday, Game 1 – Lower Columbia 9, Clackamas 5: The Red Devils built an 8-0 lead after three innings, then held off the Cougars to get the win. Hughes pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win, before Eib came in and closed it out.

Silveria belted her 16th home run and overall was 2-5 with three RBI. Langsi was 2-4 with an RBI, Nash 2-3 with three RBI and Garvey was 2-4 with a double and RBI.

On top of Langsi's aforementioned unassisted double play, the Red Devils executed several other outstanding defensive plays that were key to keeping a lead. Parkin, catching in game one, threw out a runner at 2B attempting to steal in the first inning. Later in the seventh inning, a Cougar base runner got hung up between 1B and 2B and Parkin gunned her out.

Also in the seventh, Ambriz engineered a 9-5 putout at 3B with a perfect throw from shallow right field.

Saturday, Game 2 – Lower Columbia 15, Clackamas 0 (6 innings): Although the final score gave the appearance of a Red Devil blowout, in reality LCC led just 4-0 entering the sixth inning – and what an inning it was.

Lower Columbia sent 16 hitters to the plate and scored 11 runs on nine hits. The big blow was Parkin's two-run home run, her ninth of the season.

Overall Langsi was 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI, Ambriz 2-4 with a triple and three RBI, Jaime Haase 2-4 with an RBI, Silveria 2-3 with an RBI and Parkin 2-3 with two RBI.

Eib was once again outstanding in the circle, throwing the four-hit shutout with eight strike outs and no outs. She pushed her season strikeout total to 205. Hughes is second in Ks with 144.
