Zoey Hughes is already in the LCC Softball record book for her 16-0 pitching record as a freshman. Add another accomplishment for the Battle Ground sophomore – throwing a no-hitter and hitting a home run in a game, which was the highlight of a home sweep over Chemeketa last Friday.
Hughes struck out seven Storm hitters and walked three in the 8-0 six-inning win. With
Ava Eib adding a 4-0 shutout effort in game two of the doubleheader, LCC is now 18-0 in South Region play and 33-2 overall and on a 28-game winning streak.
FRIDAY RECAP:
Game one: Lower Columbia 8, Chemeketa 0 (six innings) – Hughes walked the Storm leadoff hitter, but escaped the jam later in the inning when catcher
Alisyn Parkin nailed the runner on a steal attempt of third base.
The Devils offense then pounced for four first inning runs, keyed by Parkin's RBI single,
Gabi Silveria stealing home as part of a double steal and a two-run laser home run from
Danika Hallom.
Silveria later singled in a run in the second inning, then Hughes hit her towering two-run HR in the third. Leading 7-0, LCC walked off the mercy rule win in the sixth when
Elysa Nash singled, Eib doubled and Silveria lined an RBI single.
Game two: Lower Columbia 4, Chemeketa 0 – Eib fanned 12 Chemeketa hitters in the complete game win, pushing her NWAC leading total to 173 Ks.
Silveria continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-3 with a double and a monster home run and two RBI. The sophomore 2B from Woodland is tied for the NWAC home run lead with 15.
Avery Garvey added a pair of hits, including an RBI triple in the sixth inning to give Eib some insurance headed to the seventh. Hallom was 2-3 with a double and Nash also had a double.
