LONGVIEW, WA – The Lower Columbia Red Devils protected their home turf at David Story Field on Thursday, April 16, 2026, delivering a decisive doubleheader sweep against the Olympic Rangers. Backed by explosive early offense in the opener and a pitching masterclass in the nightcap, the Red Devils showcased exactly why they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
Game 1: Early Offense Sets the Tone in 8-1 Victory
The Red Devils didn't waste any time getting on the board in Game 1, securing an 8-1 victory over the Rangers. Lower Columbia burst out of the gates, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding another pair in the second to take a commanding early lead.
The offensive effort was a true team display. Karsten Hansen was an absolute spark plug, going 3-for-3 at the plate and crossing the dish for a run. Jaylen Kennedy kept the Rangers' outfield scrambling with a triple and two runs scored. Jackson Wendt also punished the baseball, recording a double to go along with a pair of RBIs.
On the mound, Lincoln Berg came out of the bullpen to lock things down and earn the win, improving his record to 2-1. Berg was incredibly efficient, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out three Rangers. Lower Columbia continued to apply pressure late, putting the game completely out of reach with a three-run surge in the seventh inning.
Game 2: Hubbs Deals a Shutout in 5-0 Win
Carrying the momentum into the second game of the day, the Red Devils leaned on their pitching and defense to hand Olympic a 5-0 shutout. The victory pushed Lower Columbia's impressive overall record to 30-7.
Quinn Hubbs was the story of the game, taking the mound and completely silencing the Rangers' bats. Hubbs earned his eighth win of the year (8-1) by throwing seven brilliant, scoreless innings. He surrendered a mere three hits while racking up seven strikeouts, never giving Olympic a chance to breathe.
At the plate, Martyn Hernandez put on a clinic, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple and scoring two runs. Harlan Rowe also got in on the extra-base action, delivering a triple and an RBI. Clinging to a tight 2-0 lead late in the game, the Red Devils found their insurance in the bottom of the eighth. Karsten Hansen delivered the knockout blow with a clutch two-RBI single, bringing home Jackson Wendt and Keagan Kelly to cap off a three-run inning.
With the first two games in the books, the Red Devils will look to carry their momentum on the road and secure a series sweep. The final two games of the four-game series will take place in Bremerton, at Lobe Field, on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
