What a weekend road trip for Red Devil softball – featuring four wins and 10 home runs.
Gabi Silveria unloaded four home runs in one game on Friday, added a fifth on Saturday, and the Devils got great pitching from
Ava Eib and
Zoey Hughes to go 4-0 in the NWAC Pasco Crossover.
Lower Columbia now stands 9-2 on the season, heading into NWAC South Region play on March 13 at Chemeketa and March 14 at Umpqua.
Game 1: Lower Columbia 29, Big Bend 4 (5 innings):
Silveria led off and hit her first home run, just off the glove of the Vikings' right fielder as she collided with the temporary fencing. The Woodland sophomore added three more bombs, including a grand slam, as part of a 4-5 effort at the plate with four runs scored and nine RBI.
Kendall Humphrey hit two home runs and
Alisyn Parkin,
Rylee Brown and
Danika Hallom each had one as part of a Red Devil nine home run onslaught.
Avery Garvey added four hits and four RBI and Humphrey and Eib each had three hits. Overall LCC had 23 hits in the game.
Hughes threw two shutout innings and got the win in the circle, with relief help from
Cerenity Fake.
Game 2: Lower Columbia 3, Spokane 1:
Eib and Spokane's Cassy Seifert locked up in a classic pitcher's duel, each allowing just one earned run. The difference was a two-run Spokane error in the third inning and Eib's RBI single in the seventh to give LCC a big insurance run. A
Dani Ambriz leadoff single got the final inning started for the Devils.
Over seven innings Eib allowed two hits, one earned run, walked two Sasquatch hitters and fanned 11. Her record is now 4-1 with an ERA of 0.93.
Eib had two hits, while Parkin, Ambriz and Brown each had one hit for LCC.
Game 3: Lower Columbia 20, Highline 1 (5 innings)
Leading 5-1 headed to the fifth inning, LCC erupted for 15 runs to break it open.
Silveria stayed hot with a five-hit game (two doubles), five runs scored and four RBI in her leadoff spot. Eib was 4-5 with a triple and three RBI.
Jaime Haase was 2-4 with a double, sac bunt and an RBI.
Emma Langsi was 2-4 with a double and two RBI.
Garvey, pitching in front of lots of fellow Tri Cities family and friends, got the win in the circle. The freshman lefty from Kennewick's Southridge HS allowed three hits and one earned run over three innings, while walking none and striking out one T-Bird hitter. Hughes earned the two-inning save with two shutout innings.
Game 4: Lower Columbia 11, Columbia Basin 3 (5 innings):
Again, it was Silveria leading the offense with two more hits, including a center-field blast into a stiff wind for her fifth HR of the trip. Overall, she was 11-17 over the four games with five bombs and 15 RBI.
Haase added two hits, and Ambriz, Parkin and
Seyah Lindersmith each drove in a pair of runs. Parkin's RBIs came in the bottom of the fifth inning on a line double that allowed LCC to walk-off the mercy rule win.
Hughes earned her fourth win of the young season, throwing a complete game. The Battle Ground sophomore allowed three earned runs, all in the fifth inning, on five hits. She struck out nine Hawk hitters.
