Ava Eib Throws a no hitter vs Umpqua

Game Recap: Softball |

Eib No-No Highlights Softball Weekend Sweep

Ava Eib spun a 16- strike out no hitter at Umpqua to start a four-game Oregon road sweep, highlighting the opening weekend of NWAC South Region play.

Alisyn Parkin and Avery Garvey were the hitting stars. Parkin registered a "weekend cycle" by hitting two home runs, one triple, one double, three singles and a sac fly, driving in eight runs in the three games she played. Garvey, now with a .630 average (third in the NWAC) was 9 of 11 over the four games.

Lower Columbia is 4-0 in South Region play and 13-2 overall. The Red Devils play in Vancouver vs Clark on Friday, then are home Saturday at noon vs Clackamas.

WEEKEND RECAP BY GAME:

Saturday, Game 1 (Roseburg, OR): Lower Columbia 9, Umpqua 0:
Other than allowing three walks, Eib was masterful over seven innings – fanning 16 Riverhawks, including the last six batters of the game. In nine appearances she has a 6-1 record, an ERA of 0.67 and leads the NWAC with 78 strikeouts.

Gabi Silveria blasted her seventh home run of the season. Eib also chipped in two singles and an RBI. Kendall Humphrey drove in two runs and Garvey had a pair of hits.

Saturday, Game 2: Lower Columbia 15, Umpqua 0 (five innings):
It was Zoey Hughes turn in the circle, and other than giving up a first inning triple, she was just as dominating. The Battle Ground sophomore struck out 11, walked no Umpqua hitters and allowed just the one hit.

The Red Devil bats really heated up, a precursor to the rest of the weekend. Hughes helped herself with three hits and a sac bunt and Parkin also had three hits with a double and two RBI.

Dani Ambriz had two hits with a double and four RBI, Elysa Nash drove in three runs – and Silveria, Garvey, Humphrey and Seyah Lindersmith all recorded two hits. Rylee Brown doubled as part of an 18-hit attack.

Sunday, Game 1 (Salem, OR): Lower Columbia 10, Chemeketa 0 (five innings):
Garvey's two-out single in the first and a Parkin RBI triple off the top of the fence gave LCC a 1-0 lead. That's all Eib would need as she spun her second shutout of the weekend. The sophomore righty allowed three hits and walked no Storm hitters.

Lower Columbia pounded out 13 hits and added four walks. Parkin blasted her second HR of the season and had two RBI. Silveria had two hits and three RBI and Garvey and Jaime Haase each had a pair of hits.

Danika Hallom and Garvey turned in back-to-back defensive gems in the fourth inning to deny a Chemeketa rally. With one-out and a runner on second base, RF Hallom ranged far into the gap to steal an extra base hit for the second out. Garvey, at first base, then went airborne to snag a soft liner down the line to end the inning.

Sunday, Game 2: Lower Columbia 12, Chemeketa 4 (five innings):
LCC committed only two errors on the weekend, but both came on the first two Chemeketa hitters in the first inning. That setup a Storm three-run HR, but the Red Devils quickly answered.

Trailing 3-2, Elysa Nash belted a leadoff home run to tie it, her first college long ball, and Parkin followed later in the inning with a three-run shot.

Up 7-3, the Red Devils never looked back and Hughes made sure of that. She got her second win of the weekend allowing just one more run while striking out seven and walking none.

Jaime Haase hit her first collegiate homer later in the game, a no-doubt, three-run blast. Garvey stayed hot going 3-3 and Ambriz had two hits and scored three runs. Parkin and Haase both had four RBI in the nightcap.

Hallom added another standout defensive play, climbing the CF fence to take away a sure extra-base-hit from the Storm.
