The Red Devil Softball put the practice gear away for the day on September 11, instead serving as a volunteer 20-member work team in the annual Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Counties Day of Caring.
Since September 2015, LCC softball has annually joined hundreds of volunteers from local businesses and organizations to support local non-profits with a hard day of work. This year the Red Devil players and coaches mowed, cleaned, weeded, trimmed and swept for the Kelso Housing Authority, in a low-to-moderate neighborhood in South Kelso.
"We've done this for 10 years now and honestly, it's a worthwhile day for our players," Coach Traci Fuller said. "It gives them a chance early in our school year to work side-by-side and bond as a team. They worked hard and the Kelso Housing Authority staff appreciated us. And they fed us a great lunch, too!"
The Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Day of Caring is held annually during the second week of September. Anyone wanting to participate as a team or individual can find out more at https://www.cowlitzunitedway.org/doc.
