LONGVIEW, WA — The Lower Columbia College Red Devils put on a dominant display at North Lake Field on Wednesday, securing a decisive 3-0 victory over the South Puget Sound Clippers in a key NWAC West Region matchup. Forward Dea Covarrubias led the offensive charge with two goals, powering the Red Devils to a commanding win.
The Red Devils controlled the pace from the opening whistle, relentlessly pressuring the Clippers' defense. The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Dea Covarrubias found the back of the net for an unassisted goal, giving LCC a 1-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.
Lower Columbia came out even stronger in the second half, leaving no doubt about the outcome. Just five minutes after the break, Parker Tuttle set up Covarrubias for her second goal of the match at the 50:50 mark, doubling the lead to 2-0. Ten minutes later, Tuttle got a goal of her own, converting a pass from Annabelle Rogers to extend the lead to 3-0 and seal the victory.
The LCC offense was overwhelming throughout the contest, outshooting the Clippers by a staggering 21-3 margin, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.
While the offense shined, the Red Devil defense was an impenetrable wall. Goalkeepers Cassandra Cleland and Haley Loll split duties in goal, combining for the shutout. Cleland handled the first half, making one save, while Loll took over in the second half and also recorded a save, preserving the clean sheet. The backline effectively neutralized any threat, allowing just three total shots from the Clippers all game.
With the win, the Red Devils improve to 2-0-1 in conference play and 3-2-2 overall.
