Devils Open 2025 Season vs Two Strong Opponents

Game One - Friday, August 15

WALLA WALLA, WA - In the first game of the 2025 season, Lower Columbia fell 2-1 in a competitive matchup vs the Walla Walla Warriors in Walla Walla, WA.

The scoring began early when Walla Walla's Soleil Hoefer found the back of the net in the 12th minute, assisted by Tessa Halfmoon. The Red Devils of Lower Columbia quickly responded, with Maylee Reynolds scoring in the 16th minute. Dea Covarrubias was credited with the assist, leveling the score at 1-1. The first half saw a balanced attack from both teams, with Lower Columbia taking a slight edge in shots.

The second half was a defensive battle, with both teams fighting for control. Walla Walla broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Karen Villegas scored what would become the game-winning goal, assisted by Jaden Ryan. Lower Columbia pushed to equalize, but their efforts were thwarted by a solid Walla Walla defense and goalkeeper Emi Pruneda, who finished the game with 8 saves.

Despite outshooting Walla Walla 13-12, Lower Columbia was unable to convert their offensive opportunities. The Red Devils' goalkeeper, Haley Loll, made 7 saves in a strong performance.



Game Two - Saturday, August 16

PASCO, WA - In their second game of the season, the Red Devils fell 2-0 to the Columbia Basin Hawks in Pasco, WA. Lower Columbia was unable to find the back of the net, despite outshooting the Hawks in the second half.

Columbia Basin got on the scoreboard in the 38th minute when Zoey Forst scored, assisted by Yadricia Aguilar-Gomez. Just after the second half began, Basin extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Haylee John.

The Devils offense struggled to convert their opportunities, with no goals on 8 shots. Their best chances came from Dea Covarrubias and McKenna Geffre, who combined for 5 shots on goal. Columbia Basin's goalkeeper, Brooklyn Best, earned a shutout with 4 saves.

On defense, Lower Columbia's goalkeeper, Haley Loll, had a strong performance, making 6 saves, including 4 in the second half. 

The Red Devils will be back on the pitch Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20, at the NWAC Friendlies. Games are at Pioneer Sports Park in Salem, OR.
