(Oregon City, OR) --
Rylee Brown's first college home run was a memorable one. Her Grand Slam in the second inning helped propel the Lower Columbia softball team to an 18-1 victory over Clackamas on Thursday April 17th.
The game was a make-up from an earlier trip to Oregon City where impending darkness postponed the second game of a doubleheader back on April 1st.
There were no concerns about darkness this time around because the Devils scored four runs in the first inning and eight in the second frame and got the job done in five frames via the eight run mercy-rule.
The Devils jumped out front in the first inning on a
Brooklyn Loose RBI single, a
Hailey Brooks RBI double and a two run homer from
Shaz Ancheta.
The second frame had plenty of fireworks. Loose singled in a run.
Joelie Eder drew a bases loaded walk.Â
Allison Baumgart followed with an RBI single. With the bases loaded, "Uptown" Brown then unloaded a grand slam on what she called a "half swing".
It was her first college home run and she quickly raced around the bases with her fists pumping.
Brown not only went deep, but she later hit an RBI single and drove in her sixth run with a sacrifice fly. Oh yeah, she played great defense with a running catch down the right field line and another play where she threw out a runner at home plate.
The offense backed the solid pitching of Red Devil starter
Zoey Hughes. Hughes scattered four hits and struck out five in the complete game victory.
Loose was 3 for 4 with two RBI's. Eder drove in two. Ancheta added another RBI to go with her key two-run shot in the first inning. Baumgart had two RBI's.
The Devils are now 27-0 on the season and 14-0 in the South Region.
LCC hits the road for three double headers over four days.
The Devils take on Chemeketa in a 2 pm DH on Friday April 18th. The team then continues south for a twin bill with Umpqua on Saturday April 19th in Springfield Oregon.
LCC has added a make-up DH with Grays Harbor on Monday April 21st. The first game is at 2 pm in Aberdeen.
