Devils Clinch West Region Title With 74-54 Win Over Highline

(Des Moines, WA) The Lower Columbia Red Devils secured the NWAC West Region Championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championship Tournament with a dominant 74-54 victory over the Highline Thunderbirds.

The Red Devils set the tone early, racing to a 29-point first quarter and never looking back. They finished the game shooting 40.8% from the field, controlling the boards with 43 total rebounds and forcing 29 Highline turnovers.

Lauren Katyryniuk led the offensive charge with 19 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Karlee VonMoos had a commanding presence in the paint, posting a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Reigha Niemeyer contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists, while Morgan Hamilton dished out five assists to go along with six points and three rebounds.

Highline struggled with efficiency, shooting just 28.4% from the field and 13.3% from three-point range. The Thunderbirds were led by Talor Waikins, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jesselle Victo added eight points and three steals, while Anaiya Lewis tallied seven points, four steals, and three assists.

Lower Columbia's defense was relentless, notching 21 steals and holding Highline to just 10 points in the second quarter to pull away. With the win, the Red Devils improved to 17-9 overall and 11-1 in conference play, securing the top seed in the NWAC Championship Tournament. Highline fell to 5-16 on the season and 3-8 in conference play.

With Grays Harbor not having a women's team this season the Devils have some extra time off to prepare for their NWAC championship run. The ladies will play the host school, Columbia Basin, in the first round of the NWAC Championships on Thursday, March 6 at 12:00 pm. 

The NWAC tournament is held in Pasco, WA at Columbia Basin College. The Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds are March 6 & 7th (womens), March 8 & 9th (men's) with the Final four and Championships March 15 & 16th.
