Devils Season Comes To An End

(Pasco, WA) The Columbia Basin Hawks secured a solid 69-46 victory over the Lower Columbia Red Devils in the Sweet Sixteen round of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championships on March 6, 2025. The game, played at Columbia Basin College, saw the Hawks use a strong third-quarter surge to pull away and punch their ticket to the next round.

Lower Columbia started the game with promise, taking a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. However, the Red Devils struggled offensively in the second period, managing only six points as Columbia Basin's defense tightened. By halftime, the Hawks had seized control with a 27-21 advantage.

The second half belonged to Columbia Basin, particularly in the third quarter, where they exploded for 25 points while holding Lower Columbia to 17. Amber Swan led the charge for the Hawks, finishing with a game-high 25 points along with seven rebounds. Sadie Tanner contributed across the board with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, while Baylie Voile added 11 points, including two three-pointers.

Lower Columbia struggled with shooting efficiency, connecting on just 29.7% of their field goals and only 16.7% from beyond the arc.

Morgan Hamilton was the Red Devils' leading scorer with 13 points, while Karlee VonMoos posted a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Despite their efforts, Lower Columbia's inability to convert at the free-throw line (38.5%) and their 21 turnovers hindered any comeback attempts.

Columbia Basin's defense was a key factor in their victory, forcing 21 turnovers and securing 11 steals. The Hawks also dominated in the paint, outscoring the Red Devils 30-26 inside while limiting their second-chance opportunities.

With this win, Columbia Basin advances to the Elite Eight round of the tournament. Meanwhile, Lower Columbia's season comes to an end after a strong campaign that saw them finish with a solid 17-10 record and the West Region Championship.
