(Longview, WA) -- It had been 12 years since the Lower Columbia College women's team played Olympic. LCC made the long wait sweet with a 79-59 victory on Monday December 22nd.
Freshman guard
Jaci Gonnie from Winslow, Arizona had the hot hand as she scored 24 points to lead the Devils. Gonnie hit six 3-pointers, missing just two. She was 8 for 11 from the floor, hit both of her free throws and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Freshman guard
Angelica Askey had 19 points with four steals. Another freshman guard,
Adrian Wright, scored in double figures with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Ahead 39-28 at half time, the Devils increased their lead to 15 midway through the third quarter. The Rangers, who had not played in Longview since 2008, went on a run to get within three with 2:26 left in the quarter. Instead of folding, the Devils went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter with a 12 point lead.
They would never look back.
LCC guard
Regan Brewer scored just two points but she was a force on the court. Brewer pulled down seven rebounds, dished five assists, collected two steals and even had a block shot. Her defense was outstanding.
Taysia Molina-Schulte had one of her best games of the season as she provided 10 points off the bench including 2 for 3 from long distance.
Devils post
Shailoh Li'ili'i went down in the second quarter with a knee injury. LCC is hopeful that she will be able to come back in time for league play, pending a further examination.
Lower Columbia shot 48% from the floor and 52% from beyond the arc. The team also made 14 of 19 free throws.
The Devils take some time off for Christmas. They return to Myklebust Gym to host the eight team Lower Columbia Holiday Classic Monday-Wednesday December 29-31.
LCC will take on Shoreline on Monday at 6 pm, Columbia Basin on Tuesday at 6 pm, then Whatcom on Wednesday at 4 pm.
